The Charm of the Past... Beirut
That beautiful Beirut seems to be fading away... What a 17 year civl war did not destroy, greed made sure to wipe out during peace time.
Stairs used to be a very prominent feature of Beirut. More and more Beirut lost its character and today very few stairs are preserved.
Outside the boundaries of what is known today as downtown Beirut, many suburban residences made the landscape. Today very few of these houses are preserved.
One of the preserved houses in the district of Gemmayzeh, next to downtown Beirut.
Very distinctive architecture... that Beirut gradually lost! Today a rare scene in a city that survived wars, but couldn't survive greed during peace.
The best would be when preserving the old or developing in line with the urban fabric, unfortunately another rare scene today!
Beirut... the beautiful Mediterranean city!
The beauty of the streets... once!
Today only very affluent people are able to preserve the charm of such spaces and houses!
The sad thing... we may even loose those few remaining Buildings.
