Remembering Aleppo

Remembering Aleppo is a series of black and white photographs bringing the viewer to spaces now left in ruins and devastation. The work is about people who made the old city center of Aleppo a vibrant urban space, vitalizing one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Today, many of these people are stigmatized as refugees and as such part of a problem to some.

 

Born and raised in Aleppo, the work reflects on the pain I endured while watching from my Brooklyn apartment the horrifying war footage and the sad facebook posts of my family and friends escaping the city. It’s a reminder of how this city was once a peaceful heritage site.
